The European Union (EU) is the next phase of economic evolution. More than a free trade zone, it is an alliance of countries with one currency and an aligned economic policy. This enables it to act like a country economically while remaining separate politically.
As a result, it is now the world's largest economy. It's continued success will serve as a model for other small countries within Asia, Africa and Latin America to compete in the global marketplace.
